Decorative Overlay Flooring

Decorative concrete overlays are the most versatile of all interior concrete flooring and are the preferred choice of architects and designers. Unlike acid and water base stain floors that need to have existing concrete to work from; decorative overlays do not need an existing concrete base to work from, they can be applied directly over existing ceramic and stone tiles, sheet vinyl and with the use of concrete board as a sub straight decorative overlays can be applied anywhere.
Decorative concrete overlays are a polymer modified concrete designed to be applied in a thin layer of 1/6”to 1/8” thickness over existing concrete, or concrete board sub straights, ceramic and stone tile and sheet vinyl  to replicate standard flooring materials such as ceramic , marble ,granite and wood.

With other standard flooring materials there are always design limitations that have to be worked around, such as limited tile size, shape and a very limited color selection to choose from. The big advantage that decorative concrete overlays have over standard flooring materials is that those issues are now a thing of the past. Decorative concrete overlays allow complete design freedom thus resulting in unlimited design possibilities.

One technique of applying decorative concrete overlay is with the use of special tapes and stencils to layout and create the design on the floor before the finished overlay is applied. The tape or stencil will act as the grout lines for the design. The overlay is then applied over the tape or stencil and before the overlay has time to reached full hardness the tape or stencil is then pulled through the overlay exposing the design. The exposed floor design is then colored, sealed and finish coats are applied.
